More Clouds Than Sunshine

With a nod to Fred Tomaselli’s New York Times series, I created this work as a way to reimagine the types of images we are bombarded with in the media and the sensationalism of front page imagery. The past few weeks have been overwhelmed with the horrific events of Boston & West Texas. I came across this article revealing how different newspapers across the country – some major and some small-town – covered the Boston bombings and was overwhelmed by the violence and despair expressed by the scenes of explosion, fire, smoke, and tears. During this very same time period there have been moments of beauty amidst the destruction and injury – moments that if reflected on the newspaper’s front page could inspire hope rather than fear, give a sense of solace rather than enhance crisis.
